Ghost

My back arched up off the bed as she held my wrists together above my head. She trailed kisses down my neck and to my breasts.

I don’t remember letting her in again, but maybe that’s because she never left me.

I still find her things scattered throughout my house. I should have never let her go, but that doesn’t matter now. She’s here – I don’t know how or why, but I don’t care.

It’s been so long since I felt her lips against mine. So long since I felt her fingers pulling at my hair, or pushing me down.

“Where have you been?” I ask.

She smiles. Her hand runs up along my thigh, stroking and rubbing small circles.

“You were gone,” I whisper, “I saw it.”

The circles have stopped.

“Please,” I beg, squeezing my eyes shut. I don’t want this to end again. I need it – I need her.

I drop my hand down to my thigh, looking for her.

My lips are dry; her touch is gone. I refuse to open my eyes and see this for what it was – another cruel trick.

The coldness of her absence prickles against my skin.
